Google connects via OAuth 2.0 (a token instead of a password, calendar scopes only). Apple iCloud speaks no OAuth, so the connection runs over CalDAV with an app-specific password you generate yourself in your Apple ID – we never receive your actual Apple password, and the app password is stored encrypted (ChaCha20-Poly1305). Because it works at the iCloud level, the sync automatically covers all your Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac). Google changes arrive via push webhook within seconds; the CalDAV side (iCloud) is polled every 5 minutes. If you later revoke the app password, we pause affected sharings and email you.

On the iPhone you can add a Google account in Settings – but that merely displays the Google calendar inside Apple's Calendar app. Your iCloud events don't flow to Google as a result, and the whole link is tied to that one device rather than working at the account level. The other way round, adding iCloud into Google runs via a public iCal subscription: strictly one-way, read-only and slow, because Google refreshes external feeds only at long intervals. A manual .ics import, in turn, copies every detail across once, unfiltered, and goes stale immediately.
