Sending and embedding an ICS file
A self-made ICS file is the easiest way for others to add your event in one click, whichever calendar they use.
By email or newsletter
Attach the .ics to the email or link it. In newsletters the add-to-calendar links often work better than an attachment: Google and Outlook users land straight in the prefilled event, Apple users get the download.
On your own website
Upload the .ics file to your web server and link it next to the Google and Outlook links. That covers all major calendars without embedding a widget or third-party script.
Tips for events that arrive correctly everywhere
- Always set the time zone: we write it with its DST rules into the file so 10:00 converts correctly in other zones too.
- Online meetings: put the meeting link in the "Link" field and in the description too; some calendars don't show the URL field.
- Set reminders deliberately: many calendars keep them, some ignore reminders from external files.
- Changes: a sent ICS file doesn't update itself. If things change often, a subscription or a sync is the better route.
