Two weeks after the first July update we’re following up — with two additions that both sat at the top of your wish list: Germany’s two big consumer mail providers GMX and WEB.DE can now be connected as calendars, and existing syncs can finally be edited after the fact. Both are already live.
Connect GMX & WEB.DE: Germany’s big consumer providers have arrived
Millions of people in Germany keep their personal calendar with GMX or WEB.DE — and until now, hardly any sync tool could connect it directly. From today you can connect both providers to Kalender Sync: via CalDAV with an app-specific password that you create in two minutes directly in your GMX or WEB.DE settings. After that everything runs automatically — the sync picks up changes every 5 minutes.
The most common pitfall right up front: for external apps, GMX and WEB.DE require an app-specific password — your normal login password won’t work there. The step-by-step guides show you how to create one:

The typical use case: your personal GMX or WEB.DE calendar shows up in your work calendar — with a visibility level of your choice, from plain “busy” to full details. We’ve built dedicated pages for the most common combinations:

Both providers are available from the Basic plan.
And right on its heels: mailbox.org is live too
Just after this post was written, the third German provider went live: mailbox.org, the Berlin-based business mail provider, can now be connected via CalDAV with an app password (guide) — from the Basic plan. Kalender Sync now covers all three big German mail providers, and the combination is hard to beat for compliance: mailbox.org hosts in Berlin, Kalender Sync at Hetzner in Nuremberg — your calendar data never leaves Germany. Edit existing syncs — without recreating them
In the last update it was still listed under “What we’re working on next” — now it’s live: existing syncs can be edited after the fact. Until now, every change meant ending the sync and setting it up again. That’s over — just open the three-dot menu of the sharing in the dashboard and choose “Edit”.
Here’s what you can change on a running sync:
- Source calendars — add or remove them; new sources are fully backfilled, removed sources automatically clean up their copies in the target calendar.
- Target calendar — switch it (for your own syncs); the copies automatically move from the old target to the new one.
- Visibility — switch between “Busy only”, “Title + time” and “All details”.
- Placeholder title and prefix — set, change or remove them; the prefix per source calendar.
- All-day events — whether they block the day (under “Advanced settings”).
The sync preview in the dialog shows live how events will look in the target calendar with the new settings. After saving, Kalender Sync rewrites all already-synced copies in the background — depending on calendar size that takes a few seconds to a few minutes. Your original events always stay untouched.
One detail we paid particular attention to: if you switch to a stricter visibility (e.g. from “All details” to “Busy only”), older copies outside the sync window are removed as well — so nowhere shows more detail than intended.
For two-way syncs, visibility, placeholder, prefix and the all-day option can even be set per direction. And for sharings with other people you can edit the sources and all rendering options — only the target calendar belongs to the recipient and stays fixed.
